Since the death of our technical producer, Roger Robinette, the school has been lacking a media service technician. The school hired Ian Carpency as the new Media Service Technician (MST) to assist the TV productions class (Morning Announcements) alongside digital art teacher and Executive Director of the Morning Announcements, Jonathan Mann.

“I’m very excited to be here. It’s nice to be able to have full control over the studio and the auditorium,” Carpency said.

With an electronic media and film degree from Towson University, Carpency has the knowledge and experience to benefit the studio. While in college Carpency worked with a few films including Ladder 49 and The Invasion. He was a video editor for a TV network for two years.

Before arriving at Springbrook Carpency was a MST at Northwood and Blake. Carpency’s job includes overseeing the daily TV productions and also working with all of the productions that go on in the auditorium such as plays and assemblies.

“I do like being involved in the TV Studio class. The class is oversized for the number of positions we have, but I know we can make it work. I just want students to get heavily involved and start to understand the studio,” Carpency said.

Since Robinette’s death, the TV Studio and Mann have been struggling to keep up with the daily productions.

“Now that Mr. Carpency is here I can breathe a little bit easier, because all of the technical media production is being taken care of by him,” Mann said.

Carpency plans on increasing the hype for students to participate in TV studio by trying to get more students interested in technology by providing training and encouraging creativity.

“I’m trying to bring some new life to the TV Studio and our broadcast and also get the funding up for new equipment. My ultimate goal is to get to know the students and staff. The students run the show. All I do is show them the way and they take the steps,” Carpency said.
