Taylor Swift vs. Miley Cyrus

            Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are two female artists who have captured the hearts of teens across the nation. They have chart-topping singles and target the same type of fans. However, these two starlets have one major difference; Swift is by far the more talented and sophisticated artist.

            For one, Swift has built her career from scratch. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be a singer and started seeking recording companies to take her. Eventually her parents moved closer to Nashville, Tennessee so that she would be able to pursue her dream from a more convenient distance. With hard work and determination, Swift’s dream came true. Cyrus, on the other hand has a father who already knows the ropes of the music industry. With a father like Cyrus’s, it was a piece of cake to become famous.

            Swift is also far more talented than Cyrus. People in the music industry have recognized Swift’s talent since she was a young girl, but Cyrus needs electronic help to make her music bearable. Swift also writes all her own songs, making it easier for her fans to connect with her. Swift’s songs show a maturity that Cyrus’s could never achieve. Her songs are about things that come from her heart, while most of Cyrus’s are about parties and paparazzi. Cyrus is pretty much owned by Disney, so she sings many of the songs that they write, and does all her music videos and CDs the way they want. Fans see the Cyrus created by Disney, not the real Cyrus.

            Cyrus also has the problem that most Mickey Mouse Club kids have. Kids in the spotlight from a young age tend to have trouble transitioning into adulthood because they have a good portion of the world watching them while they do it. Like fellow child stars Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Cyrus has started to go through her “naughty” phase. This was evident at the Teen Choice Awards with her questionable “pole dance,” along with many other racy photos on the internet. Swift has always maintained the innocent, hometown girl reputation that makes her a much more responsible and consistent role-model for young girls.

             Swift has many more good qualities in her music and in her character that put her above Cyrus on the “favorite artists” list.
