Tiger Woods had an affair? Why did his wife attack him with a club? He had how many other women? Who cares! It is absurd how concerned people are with the relationship status of Tiger Woods. No one should care what Tiger does in his private life, or is he not entitled to one because he is famous? The five most popular stories on the New York Post website are all about Woods and his affairs.
The media is partially to blame, but if people did not read the material, it would not be covered. People are way too concerned with this trivial matter. Maybe the media just wants to stop reporting the depressing news about the economy, but this does not excuse crucifying Woods for sins that so many other Americans participate in. It is disgusting what the media has made of this situation. Woods crashing his car is somewhat important news, he could have been injured preventing his golf play, but family matters are private for any family, even those of  famous athletes.
Woods has multiple endorsements from companies like Nike, which wants to preserve its public image. Woods is a role model and is seen in the sports world, at least before this incident, as a good one. Now, through the intrusive, disrespectful coverage by the media, Woods’ image will be forever tainted. Everyday a new girl is exposed on Woods’ “hit” list, and still people seem to care.
There are more important things to worry about. People could be following the climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, the status of the global economy or even world hunger. But no, people think that Woods’ relationships have any importance in their lives. At all.
The media investigators on this story, although they may need to make a living, should be sick of themselves. Woods has had amazing success in his sport; to have it all shadowed by the exposure of his very, very, personal life is a terrible shame. It is sad to see the American media to go so low, but it is not much of a surprise. Woods deserves to do things out of the public eye. He is entitled to have affairs; it is not illegal and there are countless other stars who have done similar things. Michael Jordan had countless women in cities around the country. What Woods did was nothing out of the ordinary, but according to the intrusive media, Woods is a disgraceful excuse for a role model. However, if the media had not been so quick and thorough to expose his deeds, he still would be one of the best sport role models today. Gatorade just dropped its Woods drink line.
The biggest surprise is that everyone seems surprised at this incident. It is safe to say that a vast majority of the rich and famous have had similar affairs. So why does this come to a surprise to so many? Since Tiger is a golfer, he is perceived as playing an old white man sport, which should be free of scandals right? However, Woods is very wealthy and famous, so this should not come to much of a surprise to anyone, even the misses.
When on the course, Woods should be praised and analyzed, and although he should set a good example for kids, his life off of the green should be left alone. Really, who cares who Tiger sleeps with? Does it affect any of our lives in the least? So, stop the harassing because surely Woods has his own issues with his family to resolve, and blowing this “scandal” out of proportion is doing nothing but hurting an otherwise excellent athlete. If parents want to find a good role model, they should let their kids watch Woods on the green, winning the masters for the tenth time. Woods is a person just like anyone else and he deserves a private life just like anyone else.
