Winter sports show spirit
Students will attend the annual Winter Pep Rally today during their seventh period class. The pep rally allowed winter sports teams to show off what they have been practicing and what students should expect this coming season.
“The student council was a big part of the planning for the pep rally, I really worked with them to plan the entire thing,” coordinator Lynn Mantello said.
Unlike previous years, the event was held before the end of the winter sports season. This was a big twist from last year which featured the varsity boys basketball team winning State Championships with an undefeated record; and a highlight on State Champion wrestler, alumnus Nadjitade Badje.
Each team is given the chance to present themselves and show the student body a little bit of what they do and the hard work they put in.
“Just like past years, the team had just planned to show the crowd some moves and practices they do during the season,” assistant wrestling coach Micah Bender said.
The event was a new experience for the freshman class, as it differs from the one that takes place in the fall.
The main focus of the event is to motivate students to participate more in school activities and bring a stronger feel of school spirit to Springbrook.
“I hope that students take this opportunity to get excited; cheer and yell, our winter teams. That is what a pep rally is all about; excitment and good school spirit,”English teacher, Emily Freed said.
Some students just feel as if the winter pep rally is a waste of time.
“I think that winter pep rallies are dumb because we are just watching different teams repeat what they do every year; it is not pep rally matieral.” senior Seun Akande said.
